About Accords International
Accords International (AcIn) is the world’s premier organization working in conflict resolution. We are passionate about discovering innovative techniques in mediation and restorative justice for widening their scope as a mechanism of conflict resolution. AcIn empowers and supports people in confronting misunderstandings and conflicts in their homes, workplace, and community in general. Our larger aim is to create a wider network of conflict resolution professionals, mediators, and restorative justice facilitators to provide better solutions for solving disputes without going to court.
ADR Cell, MAIMS
Alternative Dispute Resolution Cell is an initiative of the Department of Law, MAIMS as part of clinical legal education, that essentially engages in creating awareness amongst students about ADR mechanisms in the field of the legal profession and making them adept with the required skill set in its practice. Our objective is primarily twofold. First, to inculcate necessary values and second, to provide them with apposite opportunities that harness and refine the professional skills of students. It comprises student team members that conduct workshops, certificate courses and internal/National competitions related to ADR.
About Foundation for Sustainable Rule of Law Initiatives (FSRI)
FSRI is a non-governmental organization which provides training, education and counseling to a range of legal providers in developing countries, including courts, judges, lawyers and mediators, with the goal of building sustainable mediation programs which achieve a timely, fair and peaceful resolution of disputes.
About the 2-Day Bootcamp
This 2-day Boot Camp is being organized for informing students about Mediation Advocacy. This will be a capacity-building and skills development workshop scheduled from 10th January 2023 – 11th January 2023 (Zoom). Students will be introduced to the concept of advocacy skills required for mediation practice by experienced and seasoned Mediation practitioners in India as well as abroad. Following are the details of the program
- Orientation session for students by experts in India and outside India.
- Reading material on mediation, negotiation styles, and active listening.
- Negotiation Exercise Role Plays
Day 1
Day 1 will be dedicated to the international landscape in the field of Mediation and the role of advocates in that area. The expert session on day 1 will talk about ‘Soft Skills needed by Advocates in a Mediation Proceeding’. This session will deal with Mediation Advocacy from the point of view that explains how advocates can support their clients and aid the mediation process.
Along with this, the students will be given an opportunity to do an exercise on active listening. They’ll be able to identify the feelings, emotions, facts, and issues involved in a conversation/discussion after this. We are inviting Mr. Vic Schachter, founder and president of the Foundation for Sustainable Rule of Law Initiatives (FSRI).
Day 2
Day 2 will be dedicated to the Indian Mediation landscape. It will be dedicated to improving the negotiation skills of the advocates who play an important role in making the process of Mediation successful. The sessions are designed to give participants the strategies, tools, and skills they need to succeed in their negotiations in a collaborative manner. Also, this session will teach participants a systematic process for approaching any kind of negotiation. The participants will be given a negotiation exercise at the end. This will help them to practice a mack negotiation and learn from their peers.
Both days will involve 2 hour sessions each. These sessions will be conducted on a virtual platform – Zoom. This will also aid us in training future dispute resolution professionals in online dispute resolution.
