Mariska Hargitay isn’t currently filming Law and Order: SVUbut she did surprise fans with a major reunion online.
While enjoying time off ahead of filming season 25 of the NBC series, she shocked viewers with a video she uploaded on Instagram on July 7. As she showed herself sitting in a cafe, she revealed to her followers that she was out for lunch with the actor Andy Karlwho appeared throughout season 17. What’s more, she made sure she had folks in mind by mentioning that she was about to deliver a gift they didn’t see coming.
“Oh, sure, I’m on vacation,” Mariska said in the clip. “But I do have a present for you. That’s right, because you know what I’m thinking about? You … and action!”
As Mariska flipped the phone toward Andy, he reminded folks exactly what role he played during his time on Law and Order: SVU. “Oh, hey! Hi everybody,” he said in the video.

When fans saw them hanging out in real-life, they immediately celebrated the get-together in the comments. As folks may know, Mariska continues to star in the drama as Captain Olivia Benson.
“I THINK I NEVER CRIED THAT BAD WITH DODD’S DEATH,” one person wrote, referring to the character’s untimely end. “[Sergeant] Dodds!! 😭😭 Still not over his character being killed. Forever love Andy Karl!!! ❤️❤️🥰🥰,” a different follower penned. “Benson reuniting with ghosts? I wanna keep watching 👀,” another added.
Folks may remember that Andy’s role on the show spanned throughout season 17. In the season finale, his character got shot by CO Gary Munson (Brad Garrett) during a hostage crisis at the Manhattan Precinct.

He later died after suffering from a stroke that left him brain-dead and being taken off life support. Dodds’ death had a lasting effect on Benson, as he dealt with similar scenarios with more care than before.
As for Andy’s take on his meet up with Mariska, he seems to have enjoyed their time together. “Once the squad is always the squad,” he captioned the same snippet Mariska uploaded on Instagram. “Lunch with @therealmariskahargitay and family was a blast.”
